Day 1

The Wynberg 1st netball team had a tough first day on the courts. It was the first time we had ever played 5 games in one day. But as the day went on, we improved our goal differences in each game. Wynberg’s first game was against Eunice, who hail from Bloemfontein. Eunice were the winners of last year’s tournament. This was unbeknown to our girls, so we went into the game with  headsour up and fighting hard. The final score was 42-2 to Eunice. The tough opposition continued throughout the day. Wynberg is to be admired for our positive spirit and determination. A summary of the rest of the matches played on day one is as follows:

Collegiate 23-4
Pretoria Girls’ High school 23-10
Paarl Girls’ High 25-9
Jeppe High 19-15

Day 2
The first match of day two for Wynberg was against Rustenburg. They are one of Wynberg’s fiercest competitors in the league. The team was feeling rather stiff and tired from the 5 matches we played the previous day, but we were determined to do our best to turn it around. The result was 14-7 to Rustenburg.

The team’s perseverance paid off: we won our final two matches for the day. There is little doubt that we were determined and hungry for a win against our next opponents: Parktown Girls’ High. It was a tight game, with Wynberg winning by one point (11-10). The support from the hockey girls is what brought the spirit of the netball girls up. Our final match of the day against Northlands which was won convincingly 16-8.

Day 3
Today were the play-offs and Wynberg were determined to steal a win from Queenstown. It proved to be a tough match, point for point. Queenstown came out on top winning by a narrow 12-10. This placed Wynberg at 16th place.

Despite all the losses the girls were in high spirits and were proud of the spirit in which they had played.
