Fishoek hosted the first gala of the season this week which saw schools desperately scrambling to get teams together and out to the far south. There were some losses and in the end the only boys who participated were from Fishoek and they had to swim against the girls. Fishoek, San Souci, St Cyprians and Wynberg girls swam against each other in a variety of relay events. These events include a backstroke and butterfly relay and relays for each of breastroke, freestyle and lastly a medley. The wind was blowing strong and cold so the girls were keen to get in the pool. We took to the pool with enthusiasm and good spirit…especially after learning that all the 50 m events were reduced to 25 m. With so little practice this season the girls managed to keep in contention for all the events getting a close 3rd overall after St Cyprians and Fishoek. Our U 16’s did manage to get 2 nd spot in the freestyle which was fantastic. A great start for a young team and we look forward to an great season with our new coach, Chris Donelly.
