The concert band excels at the Cape Town Eisteddfod and Stellenbosch Concert

On the 5th of May, the Concert Band (a collaborative band featuring both WBHS and WGHS music students) took part in the Cape Town Eisteddfod held at WBHS. The concert band was given the opportunity to perform the pieces  they had been working on for specifically for the event. Pieces such as Pavel Chasnokov’s “Salvation is Created” and “High Water Mark: The Third Day” by Michael Sweeney; were performed by the band for adjudication.

The program compiled by Mr. Catzavelos (the teacher head of the Concert Band) featured pieces that proved to be uniquely themed.  Because of this, the band was able to display their range of technical abilities and as a result, made a lasting impression on the adjudicator. For this, they obtained a Diploma in their division! We are immensely proud of what the Concert Band has achieved and are thankful to be a part of a band that is able to perform at the high standard it is.

It is the chosen life of a musician to be an integral part in as many musical performances as possible and on the 6th of May, the Concert Band was once again invited to perform in the annual Stellenbosch Fanfare held at Endler Hall at Stellenbosch University. Every year, the band members look forward to the evening in which the same repertoire for the Cape Town Eisteddfod is performed to an audience who thrive on the beauty of music. After the band’s performance, we were given the opportunity to listen to other bands play and were blown away by the talent of our fellow young musicians.
