UCT Genetics Open Day

The Human Genetics Open Day at UCT was fantastic! We learnt many things about genetics, DNA and inherited diseases. We worked in the labs, trying out part of the gel electrophoresis process. The forensics simulation was particularly enjoyable, with Tamsyn Gaynor being asked to play the victim! It was worrisome to learn that certain perfumes, cosmetics and Brazilian blow outs can cause cancer. We spoke to cancer biologists in the cell biology workshop, and met Dr Lauren Watson (nee Hartmann) and another past pupil, Nikita. What an informative and exciting day for everyone! Thanks to Ms Croxford who accompanied us.
