On the 23rd of March, the art society and a few other art students went on an outing to town to visit the Smith gallery to see the works of Gabrielle Raaff. Gabrielle spoke about her choice of medium (ink and watercolour) and her subject matter, the legacy of Apartheid and its effects on nature in local areas such as the Alphen Green Belt. She was keen to share her creations with us and the students found her work unique and moving. We then quickly visited the AVA gallery, and then the 99 on Loop gallery. The outing was very informative, inspirational and provided new insights, and the girls had an amazing time learning about Gabrielle’s work. I think it’s safe to say that we all went home feeling very inspired to create our own artworks!
