On Friday 21st February 2014 our Jazz Band competed in the Interschool’s Band Slam Competition hosted at the V & A Waterfront. This was well supported by our Wynberg girls, who cheered throughout the evening showing tremendous pride in our school. The other two schools performing on this night included Heathfield and Somerset College, both of whose music added to the exciting atmosphere at the amphitheatre.

Under the leadership of Ms Dayna Pearce, the band was able to put an entirely new half hour set together in the space of 4 weeks. This is almost unheard of at school level and we are incredibly impressed and proud of our talented girls. The set included the tunes of Chameleon, Paper Moon, Think, At Last, Walking on Sunshine, Valerie, Big Spender and Don’t Know Why. Apart from Think, all were brand new songs. The members include: Michelle Langeveld, Dominique Jacobs, Carryn Joseph, Beth Petersen, Layla Omar, Ashleigh Dreyer, Ra’eesah Dalvie, Jamie-Lee Benjamin, Monique Harrison, Anais Van Vuuren, Isabelle Hayes, Elsa Nel, Honju Nam, Michaela Jacobs, Carla Stokes, Anastasia Solomons, Nadine Eddy, Saskia De Villiers, Emma Martin and Caitlin Johnson as well as Yeukai Chamba, Georgia Bailey, Cara Clayton, Robyn Williams and Ashleigh Dreyer featuring as singers.

Our spirit was heard loudly amongst those at the waterfront and our black and white branded balloons were a crowd pleaser that added to the pride shown for our school. We are looking forward to the further improvement of our jazz band and to the many more spirit filled gigs just like that of the Band Slam!  #wynbergpride
