Chimamanda Adichie“The problem with gender is that it prescribes how we should be rather than recognising how we are. Imagine how much happier we would be, how much freer to be our true individual selves, if we didn’t have the weight of gender expectations.”
― Chimamanda Ngozi AdichieWe Should All Be Feminists

After a hiatus as a result of the absence of Ms Wills because she is on study leave, FemSoc restarted on 22 January. We welcomed our new committee (Jenni Ely, Tayla Pinto, Juliette Austin, Juliet Stromin) and the teacher who has offered to hold the fort in her absence, Ms Orpen.

In the first session we watched a talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie entitled “We Should All Be Feminists”. Girls were encouraged to jot down points which they thought interesting or thought-provoking and which might serve as topics we might want to explore in more detail. It provided an entertaining introduction to feminism for new and old members of the society.
