RETURN OF TEXT BOOKS
Girls are reminded that the returning of textbooks is staggered: books on returned on the day on which the subject pertaining to it is written.
READING DURING THE HOLIDAYS: FET ENGLISH
Girls are reminded that all prescribed literature for English needs to have been read by the first day of the term next year. For Grade Tens this means Animal Farm and Much Ado about Nothing; for Grade Elevens this means Macbeth and Dancing in the Dust ; for AS Levels girls, Equus and Henry IV, Part 1 and for Grade Twelves, Othello and The Great Gatsby.
ACADEMIC
In solidarity with the call to make our discontent known, educators at Wynberg wore black on Tuesday 22 when the Protection of State Information Bill was passed.
CULTURE
WYNBERG DANCE STUDENT SELECTED FOR FURTHER TRAINING
One of our students, Veronique Reagon, who dances with Dance for All school has been invited to train with some of the world’s best ballet teachers in New Jersey. She leaves at the beginning of December. We congratulate her on her achievement.
VOCAL ENSEMBLE PERFORMS AT DUTCH REFORMED CHURCH
We congratulate our Vocal Ensemble who performed a four-part harmony of Go Tell it on the Mountain at the Wynberg Dutch Reformed church on Sunday 20 November. Also performing were Boys’ High who sang It Sounds like Christmas and God be With You
SERVICE
We congratulate the founding members of the Chaeli Campaign who were recently awarded the 2011 International Children’s Peace Prize in Amsterdam. Justine Terry, a Grade Ten student was in Amsterdam to attend the ceremony.
SPORT
Ms Edwards has recently returned from Bahrain, having played the Western Union Bahrain International. Ms Edwards & her doubles partner Ms Annari Viljoen were seeded 32 for the tournament. They lost in the semi-finals to an Indian pair in a closely contested match.However, they have earned 2800 World Ranking points which moved them up 12 positions to 42 on the World ranking list. (In order to qualify for the London Olympics in 2012 they need to be in the top 50, on 1 May 2012, so they are currently on target) At the moment she is playing in the Botswana International where she is seeded #1 for the tournament in both the doubles and the mixed events.
GENERAL
LOST PROPERTY
There is an enormous amount of lost property in the front office. Girls have been asked to go to Mrs le Roux to see if any of it is theirs. It will be given away at the end of the term should it not be collected.
APPROVAL OF BUDGET
Fees are set by the Governing Body and approved by the parents towards the end of each year. This year the budget meeting took place on 9 November 2011 @ 19h00. At that meeting, the parent body voted school fees at R22 000 for the 2012 Academic year. A letter was sent home with your daughters to that effect.
FUNDRAISING
