Inviting the new members to the MSA is an annual tradition and this year was no different. After a long, hot and exhausting week, who wouldn’t reject an invitation to splash in the pool, braai and just relax?

The MSA got an overwhelming response from our Grade Eights to join the MSA. We gathered by the poolside, everyone squishing together in order to protect themselves from the sun. Ice breakers are usually odd and awkward, but as we went around the circle, the girls had no problem introducing themselves (although it has to be said that what seemed to embarrass them was mentioning their toothbrush colour. Yes, many girls giggled with embarrassment as many realised that they hadn’t even noted it.)

By the time we familiarised ourselves with each other, the fire had heated perfectly. Girls gathered around the braai stands, nervous and excited to be braaing their own meat instead of relying on someone else to do it for them.

The sun was scorching hot and the fire didn’t ease matters: by contrast, the pool definitely did. Girls plunged into the pool (Mrs Moerat included) and even attempted taking underwater selfies!

All in all, it was a relaxing afternoon which was a great success. It was a warm welcome to start off and will lead us into the busy year planned ahead for the WGHS MSA.
