Wellesley’s Treading Water Challenge

Cool waters to soothe a hot body – Tuesday,  7 Feb brought much excitement in and around the pool. It was the first Wellesley-initiated challenge of the year and what better way to spend a hot break-time than a fun challenge in the new multipurpose swimming pool?

Four girls from each house competed against the other houses to see how long they could tread water for. But it was not just a matter of staying above the water- it was staying above the water with elbows above the surface.

A number were beaten along the way…

The girls in the pool were cheered on by their fellow housemates and house heads from the sidelines-  the faithful Wellesley tutor teachers as timekeepers, keeping accurate track of time and enjoying the fruitful atmosphere.

The girls from each house who lasted in the water went on to treading across the pool and back. This still was insufficient to eliminate all: so a further challenge (after 16 minutes of treading water)  was issued: they were required to tread for 10 second intervals with their shoulders out of the water – and after 17 minutes, a clear winner appeared.

Final results, as determined by the adjudicators, were as follows:

1st Copenhagen & Kirsten       200
3rd Waterloo                                120
4th Cavanagh                              100
5th Silverlea                                  80
6th Apsley                                      60
7th Wellesley                                40
8th Constantia                              20

Congrats Kirsten and Copenhagen! Well done to all who participated! This was not for the fainthearted!
