Western Province Regional Bridge Building Competition

We wish our Wynberg team the very best of luck as they represent the school in the SAICE / ASLA MAGWEBU Regional Bridge Building Competition at Canal Walk, Centre Court on Saturday 20 July. Our team consists of  two Grade Twelves and and one Grade Eleven Science student: Saskia Schroder (team leader), Kgori Mokgatle and Rachel Suttle. The competition starts at 8 am and is expected to end at 6 pm.

Model Bridge Building Competitions for school learners have become an integral part of the activities of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering.  Last year saw the participation of 22 schools from around the Western Cape. Students were given a few hours to construct their bridge from pieces of wood and glue. Thereafter the bridges were judged for their aesthetics and finally, tested to see how much weight the bridge can carry. The top weight recorded  in 2012 was 402kg.
