“Wiping out is an under-appreciated skill!”

Saturday, 13 August was a fun-filled learn-to-surf day for the girls from Wynberg. It all started with a quick jog on the beach and then to learning all the basics about surfing such as paddling and how to jump up on the board as a wave catches you.

Shortly after that we headed into the water with about ten coaches who taught us exactly how to surf. Two hours later all thirty Wynberg girls had attempted and learnt this skill. We all felt that we had accomplished something that deserved a tick off the bucket list. It was Laird Hamilton who said that “Wiping out is an under-appreciated skill.” He was not wrong – we quickly learnt that we are all equal before a wave.

It was an amazing and such a worth-while experience and we couldn’t have done it without Miss Underhill, Mr Schutte and the Surf Emporium team.
