A number of people are counting down the days to the Midmar Mile: at the time of writing, there are only four days to go.

Wynberg Girls’ High is interested because two people associated with the Wynberg family will be swimming the Midmar Mile – the world’s largest open water race – this year. Those two people are pretty inspirational.

Mrs Gail Bristow, Head of Geography at our school, a South African Masters Champion is also the holder of the women’s record for this race. This year she will be swimming it for the 38th time. Since it’s inception, the only race she has missed out on was in its first year, when female swimmers were not allowed!

Greg Faure, husband of Ms Penny Glover, will be swimming the Midmar Mile for the second time. Despite being in a wheelchair, Greg trains at Steenberg Virgin Active and has turned a setback in his life into a story of courage, motivation and inspiration. Greg has a facebook page in which he is documenting some of the experiences he has in preparing for this swim.

We wish both Mrs Bristow and Mr Faure a wonderful race! We certainly will be holding both of them in our thoughts, and wish them a wonderful race!
