Our marimbas bands shone at the first Marimba Jam Eisteddfod.

On the 1st November, the WGHS marimba bands took part in the first Marimba Jam Eisteddfod. Marimba Jam is the company started by past pupil and teacher, Kiara Ramklass, (when she was a Grade 11 student at Wynberg) to bring the joy of culture and music to underprivileged schools.

The event took place on a wonderful evening at Springfield’s outdoor stage. There were braais going, and participants and guests were invited to bring their braai condiments and picnic blankets for a festive and vibey atmosphere.

The event featured bands from WGHS, Springfield and Pinelands High School. The bands competed in three categories: Junior (Primary schools), Intermediate (Grades 8-9) and Senior (Grade 10-11).

Our marimba bands played extremely well and had the audience cheering them on. The WGHS Senior Band, Beats ‘n Buns, had an amazing set with fantastic spirit and support. The WGHS band “The Dynamics” won their Intermediate division with the Springfield Junior Band winning the Junior division and “Rumble” from Springfield winning the Senior division. “Beats n Buns” won the Spirit Prize with Springfield winning overall. All the bands achieved great results and had a really great time.
