On Monday the 3rd August, Wynberg’s first and second hockey teams had the opportunity of playing yet another touring side. The teams were from England from Denstone College. Unlike the warm and sunny weather that our girls played in over the weekend, the weather was cold and there were a few scattered drizzles. However, this certainly didn’t prevent all of the girls having fun and enjoying their games.

The first team were man down for this match as two of their players were unable to play in the match. However, the team managed to push through and work well as a team. A thank you goes to Gabby Makohliso, from the second team, who joined the team for the day and performed well, linking up some great passes. During the first part of the match the team seemed to need some more fire and cohesiveness. After this patch they managed to step up to the plate and played some well structured hockey. Denstone College managed to score the first goal but this didn’t let the Wynberg girls’ heads drop. They came back with a fighting spirit and pocketed two goals after this, beating the their opponent 2-1. The first goal was scored by Jenna Grey, with a great pop into the box. The second goal was scored by Tasneem Rawoot, who dived in to get a deflection shot. Another great team effort was seen from the first team. It was great for the team to be able to get this extra practice in as they continue to prepare for their upcoming league games.
