Wynberg Girls’ High placed on the WCED Merit List for 2013

We were delighted to hear that once again Wynberg had been invited to the breakfast at Leeuenhof Awards ceremony, and the staff waited with much excitement to hear the reason for our invitation.

We are absolutely thrilled to hear that Lauren Gildenhuys came 2nd and that Kate Bell came fourth in the Western Province – both were on the 2013 Merit List.   In this category awards are given to candidates who have achieved excellently in the 2013 NSC examinations.  The awards are allocated according to the marks obtained in the best six subjects that fulfil the requirements for the award of a National Senior Certificate (two official Languages, and four other subjects excluding Life Orientation and Mathematics Paper 3). Each candidate receives a certificate and an award of R 8 000. The top three will also receive a tablet computer.

Further than this, of the top 20 schools, Wynberg was ranked 12th. The award is based on the following criteria:

Consistency in number of grade 12 candidates over a period of 3 years (at least 90%) of previous years)
An overall pass rate of at least 95% in 2013
Percentage of candidates with access to Bachelor’s degree
Percentage of candidates with Mathematics passes

Consequently we are amongst those who recieved an award of R15 000 for the purchase of teaching and learning support material.

We commend our top achievers for their success, and to the Matrics of 2013 and their teachers who earned this place for us.
