ACHIEVEMENTS OF WYNBERG GIRLS AS WP HOCKEY TEAM REPRESENTATIVES 2015

WP U18A TEAM took part in the National Girls Hockey Tournament held in Pretoria in June/July holidays. 4 Wynberg Girls’ High School players were represented in this team of 16 players:

Valeshka Harkhu (goalkeeper);

Chelsea Manoek; Jamie Southgate & Sasha Sivertsen

This team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and went on to place first out of 12 other provinces. It has been 25 years since WP Girls U18 side has won this tournament, so Wynberg is very proud of the girls who were a part of the process.

At the end of the tournament, the National U18 selectors named the South African U18 Girls team and we are very proud of Jamie Southgate, who is still an U17 player, as she was selected as one of the 4 WP players to be selected to represent their country at U18 level. She was invited to attend the High Performance Clinic straight after tournament and spent 3 days training with the top U18 hockey players in the country. Jamie will represent her country in a series against an Australian team later in the season.

Sasha Sivertsen was also one of the WP U18A players invited to attend this training clinic, as a member of the U17 High Performance squad.

The WP U16A team took part in the National Girls U16 Tournament held in Stellenbosch in the June/July Holidays and Amina Williams was the Wynberg Girls’ High School representative in the team. This team did very well throughout the tournament and finished in bronze-medal position.
