Wynberg Karate girls bring the medals home from the World Championships in Berlin

Three Wynberg girls, Chelsea de Reuck, Adriana Verster and Jessica Virgin recently took part in the KSI Karate World Championships, in Berlin, Germany. The tournament took place from the 19th-23rd of July 2016. What an awesome experience. There was not much time to do sightseeing as we were totally focused on the tournament, although we got to visit the Berlin Wall, Check Point Charlie and one or two other places of interest. Meeting and making friends from other countries with the same love for karate, is an important social aspect of the tournament.

The three of us, Jessica, Chelsea and Adriana, achieved well at the tournament. Jessica competed in two events and placed 3rd ( bronze medal) in her kumite and 2nd ( silver medal) in her kata. Adriana competed in three events, She placed 3rd ( bronze medal) for kumite, 1st (gold medal) for kata and 1st ( gold medal) for team kata. Chelsea competed in two events and placed 2nd (silver medal) for kata and 1st ( gold medal) for team kata.

We are very proud of these achievements. They have done South Africa and Wynberg Girls’ proud.
