Wynberg participates in the annual Minquiz

On Thursday, 15th of May – quite a cold, rainy day, at that – three Grade 12 learners and a teacher, from a wide variety of schools, went over to our brother school for almost an entire day.

It was time for another of the annual Minquiz. Here is an excerpt from the website on which the quiz is found:

Minquiz is regarded as South Africa’s premier annual national Science competition for Grade 12 learners, and has been running since 1988. The competition aims to encourage interest in careers in science, engineering and technology, especially in minerals and metallurgy, and to promote an awareness of the importance of minerals and metallurgy to South Africa.

Cayleigh Brown, Azrah Ismail and Anjali Kooverjee accompanied Mrs Moerat to represent Wynberg Girls’ in this fantastic and exciting competition. The girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were challenged by both the individual quiz, and while watching the final round take place.

There were a few guest speakers, such as a Chemical Engineer professor from the University of Cape Town, and an employee from Mintek – the company which hosts the Minquiz. A lot was taken from these talks and they were highly beneficial to the student and teacher listeners.

Minquiz is something that Wynberg is proud to be a part of and we look forward to future years of participation and achievement.
