Parents Association

The Wynberg Girls’ High School Parents Association is a dedicated and enthusiastic team of parents who assist with a number of successful fundraising projects throughout the year. The team meets on a regular basis to plan and implement events and are required to source sponsorship and donations for prizes and goods to ensure a successful amount is raised each year.

2017 Projects

  • Music room – through the very generous donations of Past Pupil, Mrs Ackerman, the creation of an intimate performance space for our musicians has partly been sponsored, but the refurbishment has a great distance to go.
  • Cavan Road Courts:  We have put in an application to Lotto for assistance however the quotes for the full job come in at around R650 000 and the maximum assistance that we can receive as a government school from this source is R300 000. Much additional funding is needed to upgrade the facility.
  • Gym Hall: there is a considerable amount of work to be done in our Gym. We have a quote to replace the roof, ceiling, floors, & upgrade the change rooms at R1.2 million
  • Ballet Hall: the walls are crumbling in places. At this point we have yet to obtain quotes to remedy this very serious issue.
  • Asbestos guttering: we have asbestos all over the school & hostel. We want to replace the guttering, downpipes & overhead tanks so we can put in grey water systems to water the garden and use borehole water to feed the toilets via the overhead tanks. At this point, we have submitted emergency repair paperwork to the WCED but are uncertain of whether they will consider funding it.
  •  Borehole: we are currently looking at putting in a borehole, which will feed the toilets at the school.
  • While our eight new classrooms have beenpaid for, we have done so from our reserves. An unexpected need to replace our hall floor is also being funded from our reserves.
