We're often encouraged to believe that one of the greatest gifts you can give is your time. Ironically, in this time-constrained world of ours, the more time we give to projects of value, the richer we feel!

Every Wednesday afternoon after school, 5 learners from Grade 10 and 11 along with Ms Sewraj, head off to St George's Home for Girls located in Wynberg. We help the younger girls with reading and homework and provide one-on-one tutoring for subjects such as Maths and English. Many of the young girls struggle to read and pronounce certain words.

Responding to that need, we designed a pack of sound and reading cards which has enabled us to help teach the younger girls to pronounce words more easily. We managed to create approximately 10 packs each containing 15 cards.

This initiative originally started when Tutor group TS (Silverlea house) went to deliver small bags filled with treats for the girls as part of the International Mandela Day initiative. We discovered when chatting to these young girls that many struggle with their homework and would really appreciated having assistance. We decided to step into that gap, and offer a homework tutoring system to girls from Grades 1 to 5.

The girls are very welcoming and friendly and we experience immense joy in spending the time with them.
