Our Water Polo teams report on the results of their games against Springfield on Friday 8 February.
On Friday, 8 February Wynberg Girls' High played an astoundingly good match against Springfield. The first chukka started off with Wynberg's winning the ball in the swim off, but the ball was lost, and Springfield took control of their attack. While Springfield’s attack was good in this particular instance, Wynberg's defense was better. At the end of the first chukka, Wynberg was winning 3-0. In the next few chukkas, Wynberg's defense and attacks were amazing. There were many drives down the pool along with brilliant goals. Although Springfield managed to score a goal in the third chukka, it was far too little against a team who were on fire. Well done to Wynberg Girls' High Schools' 1st team who won the game 10-1. The goals were scored by Courtney Joshua, Maria Stock, Jenna Curry, Bilqees Abrahams, Layla Adams, Tatum Leibrandt and Gina Walker.
On the 8th of February, WGHS U16A's played a challenging match against Springfield. It was a match played at home. In the first chukka we won the swim off. Most of our attempts at shots failed, and at the end of the chukka the score was 2-0 to Springfield. In the second chukkar we won the swim off again but were unsuccessful in any attempts at goals. By the end of the chukka Springfield were leading 3-0. In the third chukka we lost the swim off, but our game became more intense, and our defense was strong. In this period we were able to score. In the final chukka, again we lost the swim off, but kept playing hard. Despite our best efforts, the final score was 4-1 to Springfield. Our goal was scored by Jo Williams. We congratulate our opponents who outplayed and outmanoeuvred us. Well done to all the girls who played, and a big thank you to their coach Talya.
The u14A played a very good game against Springfield defeating them 4-0. We had good defense throughout the game and although there were moments when we slipped up and we lost the ball a few times, recovery was quick and efforts persistent. Jade van Niekerk is to be commended particularly for her play in the 2nd chukka, when she stole the ball from the opposing team! Thanks to Sarah Bray we won 3/4 swim offs!
We had a good attack, and worked well as a team to score our goals. The shooting skills from our team mates were excellent, and thanks to excellent defense, there were no goals from the opposing team.
Well done u14A keep up the good work and well done for this match and good luck for Dave Pitcairn!
