In a nail-biting Interschools' Hockey tournament the Wynberg U16A Hockey gives it their all. And it was only when a tiebreaker in the form of a goal average is introduced that Herschel pips the Wynberg 16A Hockey team at the post.

Despite the ominous, black clouds engulfing the entire peninsula, the U16A Hockey team gathered at Rustenburg, and despite the single figure temperatures all team members were in fine spirits. For this day, 23 August, was the day we had spent the entire season preparing for: the Interschools Hockey Tournament.

We quite literally broke the ice in our first match, against Herschel, which ended after a furious 20-minutes in a 0-0 draw. Thoroughly warmed up, we proceeded to beat Springfield 1-0, San Souci 2-0 and St Cyprians 2-0 ending in a rather unlucky 0-0 draw to Rustenburg. Unfortunately, the sky could not match our spirits and broke long before the end of the tournament drenching absolutely everyone in a torrential downpour. However, all of the teams adapted quickly to the variation of traditional hockey, and that, coupled with their enthusiasm and dedication prevented the rest of the day from going under.

All in all, despite the weather, it was a very successful day but the major highlight was, without a doubt, the prize-giving. It was here that we were shown that hard work and dedication really do pay off when we were placed in a tied first with Herschel! Unfortunately, as there was only one trophy, the tiebreaker presented itself in the form of goal average, which unfortunately shifted us into a very close second. The final results were as follows:

1st Herschel
2nd Wynberg
3rd Springfield
4th Rustenburg
5th St Cyprians
6th San Souci
