On 15 October, the Matric Art Exhibition was officially opened by Liesl Hartmann, Head of the Education Programme at Zeitz Mocaa.
Drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations were all on show. This year, the theme supplied by the Western Cape Education Department was Baggage/Burdens. Interpreted in a multitude of different ways, it clear that our matrics had worked creatively and imaginatively in their response to the topic. We congratulate all of our Grade 12 students on their personal achievements, growth, and creation of inspiring work.
Guests and exhibitors at the Exhibition were addressed by Mrs Saporetti Head of the Visual Arts Department, and Liesl Hartman, Head of Education at Zeitz Mocaa. Amongst other things, she reminded us of the leading role that women are playing as curators at this top Museum of Contemporary Art and the opportunities that they as young artists need to embrace.
Thank you to all who came to support our young and flourishing artists, as well as to the Occasions Team for helping out at the exhibition. The exhibition was moderated on Thursday 18 October and then dismantled on Friday - and in an instant, a year's work, heartaches, celebrations and triumphs was over.
