Some fabulous indoor hockey was played by our teams against Westerford High School. Our captains report on the results of their games.
ON Wednesday, 6 February, our 1st Team Indoor played a match against Westerford. We knew that it would be an exciting game. The girls entered the field once again without a goalkeeper, and Amaal Ceres stepped up to the position as a kicking back.
Westerford came out hard on us, scoring a goal, but Wynberg retaliated with an outstanding goal scored by Aaminah Domingo. Unfortunately, another 6 goals were scored by Westerford. Despite the loss, there was so much that was good about the way that we played. There was phenomenal team work, excellent communication and some focussed and committed play. We congratulate Amaal, who for the 2nd time, was awarded player of the match!
On Wednesday, the 6 February Wynberg Girls’ High School’s indoor second team played Westerford’s indoor second team. The team brought spirit and enthusiasm and gave the game their all. Despite this, the final score being against us, 4-1. The goal was scored by the woman of the match, Yusrah Khan. Determined, committed and working for the team, she successfully executed one goal with the help of her team mates. The game was an unfortunate loss, but the vision is in place!
Our team went onto the field with energy and enthusiasm. In the first ten minutes of the game, we played a great defense, blocking all shots heading to the goal post. We were determined to win. But, the game was poised: because we weren't playing against Grade 8's, they had a better chance of winning. All of this notwithstanding, the spirit with which our girls played was extraordinary. Fighting until the very end we defeated our opponents 6:0. A great improvement to the whole team.
Well done girls! We have to recognised the whole team as players of the match! Their defence was by the book!
