The prize giving ceremonies for the 2020 certificates and awards looked and felt a little different but they were no less special.
2020 was a year of firsts, so it was no surprise that the Grade 8 - 11 of 2020 prize giving ceremonies were different. 2020 was a difficult year but the learners showed resilience and motivation which culminated in many achieving subject distinction certificates and special awards.
Separate ceremonies for Grades 8 and 9, and Grades 10 and 11 were held to celebrate the achievements of learners. Grades 8 and 9 gathered on opposite slopes of the Honours Quad on Wednesday 17 February, and Grades 10 and 11 gathered on the Astro on Thursday 18 February. The ceremonies were held outside to allow each grade to be present to share in the celebrations and to allow learners to social distance. In an effort to ensure all learners and staff remained safe, both the junior and senior prize giving lost some element of formality as no special guests had been invited and no musical items were performed; however, the significance of each occasion was not dampened by the change in venue or lack of tradition as the enthusiasm and spirit of the learners was tangible.
Wynberg Girls’ High School takes great pride and pleasure in awarding special awards in the following categories: Academic, Culture, Service, and Sport.
