Last Friday night (15 October) we held our annual Hostel Matric dinner, one of Waterloo House’s longest-running traditions.

Given the pandemic, we’ve had to change it a bit – usually, we celebrate as a whole hostel – this year the matrics went out for a fancy dinner with some of our lovely hostel staff.

Dressed with the best fit, the whole hostel (including the kitchen staff) cheered the matrics down the corridors, making us feel so special and including our sisters in a bit of our night.

We arrived at the V & A Waterfront to a huge welcome from some of the House Moms and Sisters, with surprise guests – past boarder mistresses who’ve known us since Grade 8!

The Matric boarders and guests sang along to the live band, eating stunning food, and drinking the best slushies. We spent this time reminiscing with our 'sisters' and staff family about our memories in the hostel over the past five years... Chatting in the duty room until after lights-out with Sis Babs; getting more than two biscuits out of Sis Ches; knowing Sis Flo is there to sort out ALL things and save you dessert on top of everything else; Sis Val bringing fun and energy to any evening.

Many wonderful memories were discussed like the flower photoshoots, pool parties, outdoor cinema nights, minute-to-win-it games, talent shows, heated duty room debates, late-night study sessions, socials boys, making the best birthday cards.

A big thank you to all the staff who were there to make our night so special!! And a special thanks Sis Val for being the bus driver for this memorable evening!
