Shift happens! And sometimes those shifts are very, very good. Now, more than ever before, community and kindness are gaining traction, and people are discovering its transformative power.
In these extraordinary times, an inspiring article in the Daily Maverick, Jess Auerbach put it this way: People are now in contact who in normal circumstances would never know of the other’s existence. Urgently formed Community Action Networks (CAN) are linking not only neighbours, but neighbourhoods in ways that bridge the divides of apartheid urban planning....This connection is changing us. Once you have seen, you cannot un-see, and across South Africa, people are seeing one another with fresh perspectives.
In the spirit of this sense of community, Wynberg Girls' High School is launching a relief fund for needs that arise as a result of COVID-19 and its impact, including:
- the purchase of data for learners in need, for academic-related purposes during this lockdown period;
- community food banks, and the provision of food parcels once lockdown has been lifted;
- the provision of support and some relief for those disadvantaged communities with whom we have established relationships; and
- other related needs as they arise.
