🎶"It's gonna be our night / To remember 🎶 It's gonna be the night / To last forever". We bring you scenes, a video clip and short report on the experience of the wonderland experience of the 2018 Matric Dance.
When the matrics of 2018 woke up on the morning of April 14th, they knew that it was no normal day. Weeks of preparation, anticipation and attempts to solicit dates finally culminated on Saturday night as the glamorous and memorable event known as the Matric Dance.
On any other day, they would be regular students, but on this night, they were queens as they stepped out of their luxury cars with their high heels keeping them centimetres above the unworthy ground. Ushers dressed as playing cards directed them and their partners from the cheering crowd at the entrance to the Alice in Wonderland-esque venue upstairs. Here they were greeted with glasses of juice before making their way to the parting of ivy leaves that led to their seats.
After appetisers and short speeches from the head of school, Aqilah Regal, and Ms Harding, the matrics were ready to set to set the dance floor on fire - literally. One of the centrepieces caught alight but was put out quickly, and did not detract from any of the festivities of the night. Everyone enjoyed the delicious buffet and hip hop numbers until, as in the story of Cinderella, the clock struck midnight and it was time to make their tired journeys home - many of them sans shoes on their feet.
This magical event would not have been possible without the hard work of Ms Amien, Ms Pearce and The Matric Dance Committee. They made each and every matric feel special on the night that marked their transition from Wynberg Girl to Wynberg Woman. The matrics of 2018 are both appreciative as they look back at this milestone of their high school careers.
