Friday afternoon’s Violin master class gave new meaning to Angela Cummings’ words in My Aesthetical Heart, when she said “I love the baroque pearls, which have a beautiful lustre.”
Baroque music makes so much more sense once you understand the elements of the music of the period. This was Mr Saayman’s master class objective, when he took the class through bowing and shifting exercises. We did not even notice the technicalities of the scales and sight reading because it was done within the context of an aesthetical appreciation of true baroque music.
Well done, Mr Saayman, you are the Master.
