Wynberg Girls' High staff and students welcomed hundreds of parents and prospective students at the Open Day held on 11 February 2019.
Choosing the right high school to attend is something every Grade 7 student is currently facing. It is a choice that the current students at Wynberg have already made, and they were available at the first of our Open Days to talk about their school, and to answer any questions our guests might have had.
Definitely working from Plan B, hastily decided upon when the very blustery wind and load-shedding put some well laid plans to rest, staff and students offered parents and prospective students guided tours, Life Sciences practicals, Physical Science Experiments, and sports matches or practices to observe.
At the eleventh hour, musicians were drawn into and dropped from the show we had planned to perform in the Aileen Currie Hall, as adjustments were made with the re-arrival of load-shedding. And when even the portable speaker died on our dancers some way into their piece, new meaning was given to Simon & Garfunkel's lyrics "Hello darkness my old friend" in their classic Sounds of Silence. Our dancers moved on the stage in perfect partnership in complete silence. With complete composure, our tech team set up another speaker during the performance of the next item by our school choir. It was a demonstration of the flexibility and adaptability, resilience, courage and excellence of our students - skills and values that are not simply talked about.
We believe that Wynberg Girls' High is the school of choice, and hope that in welcoming our guests on this extraordinary day, they could see why.
