Elected onto the RCL

After 1994, learner’s organisations were given formal legal status by means of the South African Schools Act (SASA) which states that a Representative Council of Learners (RCL) should be set up to represent the interests of the learners in every public school. It therefore is a governance structure of learners as stipulated in the SA Schools Act, 1996 ( Act 84 of 1996)and serves as a link between the school and the management of the school along with the governing body.
